Our Club

History

In 1853 the Crown subdivided land in the Point Lonsdale township including the allotments now occupied by the Lonsdale Golf Club. In 1921 the ‘Point Lonsdale Golf Links’ was formed and 45 acres of land was purchased for the construction of a golf course. A nine hole golf course was opened in November 1922 and a small club house erected in 1931 with change of name – Point Lonsdale Golf Links Club. Additional land was progressively bought over the next twenty years and in 1954 an 18 hole layout designed by a leading golf course designer, Morcom, was completed. A new club house was opened in 1957. During the 1980’s four new holes were created by reclaiming former shell grit mined areas alongside Lake Victoria, adding to the playing and scenic quality of the course.

The Future

The Lonsdale Golf Club has embarked on a visionary redevelopment plan to secure its long term sustainability and still further enhance its standing as a quality Australian golf course. Entailed in the project is an extension to the course which includes restoration of degraded landscape areas, a residential subdivision and a new clubhouse facility. The project is still in the stage of seeking planning approval.
